Services - Activity and Capacity Modelling

All members of Fusion Health are capable of undertaking capacity modelling exercises as part of a project, Adrian Vickers leads in terms of detailed activity and capacity modelling exercises and peer review as part of our internal quality assurance standards.

Fusion´s capabilities stretch from simple activity analyses and models to support specific service orientated developments, for example, identifying the effects on capacity requirements by developing alternative methods of service delivery through to major modelling exercises that model whole clinical systems, integrating acute and primary care implications and allowing outputs to be used as a basis for progressing the clinical vision.

We can bring a variety of techniques including graphical and visual aids, creativity and problem solving techniques and a focus on ensuring that clinical decisions made are grounded on a firm evidence base.

Modelling often occurs at an individual patient level of detail through the use of sophisticated database manipulation and analysis, this allows activity to be modelled and expressed in any shape and is capable of detailed audit and investigation.

Each model can be made bespoke to our individual client´s requirements and can include:

• Demographic indicators and forward projections.
• The effects of commissioning strategies and service shifts at PCT or practice level
• Assumptions such as:

• » Shifts to intermediate care provision and the effect on both the acute and community sector.
• » Admissions avoidance strategies.
• » Length of stay reductions.
• » Performance assumptions and benchmarking.
• » Unbundling of traditionally acute centred activity.

• The inclusion of scenarios and sensitivities surrounding assumptions included within the model.
• Cohesive modelling that integrates the impact of service change in one department or locality on another

Our modelling capability will be premised on understanding the client´s needs and developing or using a model that satisfies those requirements. Our philosophy is to develop robust, sophisticated and appropriate models that will withstand scrutiny, be future-proofed and deliver the client requirements whilst avoiding over complexity and confusion.
